Accessing Enhanced Access - Out-of-Hours appointments

GP practices across Benfleet Primary Care Network are working together to provide the right services at a time which is convenient for you. We’ve listened to feedback from people in our local area, and we are making changes to our out-of-hours appointments to deliver better services for you.

The new way of delivering out-of-hours appointments will give you:

• Access to more healthcare professionals. This new service will be delivered by professionals including GPs, Nurses (Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANP's), Healthcare Assistants (HCA's), Practice Nurses), First Contact Physiotherapists (FCP's) and Pharmacists.
• More choice about the type of appointment you want. These include a mixture of in-person face-to-face appointments and remote telephone appointments.
• Make it more convenient for you to travel to out-of-hours appointments. These appointments are being planned and delivered locally at Rushbottom Lane Surgery.
• Out of hours appointments will be available from 6:30pm to 8pm weekdays, and from 9am to 5pm on Saturdays.

All appointments need to be booked in advance; there are no walk-in appointments available out of hours.

To book an out of hours appointment, contact your GP practice in the usual way. They will advise you on appointment availability, and which healthcare professional is the right person to help you.

Your appointment might not be at your regular GP practice. When you book, you will be told where the appointment is.

If you need medical help now but it's not an emergency, you can also go to 111 online or call 111.

Health Services for Bank Holidays

The local NHS is encouraging residents to be prepared for the upcoming Bank Holidays and to know what to do if they, or a family member, is unwell.

There is a range of NHS services available to local people over Bank Holidays weekends including Pharmacy advice, NHS 111 on the telephone and online, and Mental health support. Visit nhs.uk for more info including local pharmacy opening times.

If you need to see a doctor outside surgery hours for a minor problem that cannot wait until the surgery is open, you should contact the Out of Hours Service rather than go to A&E.

The A&E Department is only for Accidents or serious Emergencies and you may have to wait for several hours to be been.

When the surgery is closed:

Telephone Out of Hours direct on 111. This number is also posted on both entrances to the surgery.

NHS 111 is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Calls are free from landlines and mobile phones.

When to use it

You should use the NHS 111 service if you urgently need medical help or advice but it's not a life-threatening situation.

Call 111 if:

• you need medical help fast but it's not a 999 emergency
• you think you need to go to A&E or need another NHS urgent care service
• you don't know who to call or you don't have a GP to call
• you need health information or reassurance about what to do next

For less urgent health needs, contact your GP or local pharmacist in the usual way.

If a health professional has given you a specific phone number to call when you are concerned about your condition, continue to use that number.

For immediate, life-threatening emergencies, continue to call 999.

111 online is a fast and convenient alternative to the 111 phone service and provides an option for people who want to access 111 digitally. 

Your needs will be assessed and you will be given advice about whether you need:

• Treat yourself at home
• Go to a Primary Care Centre

If you need face to face medical attention you may be asked to attend a Primary Care Centre.

Please see below the time to learn sessions scheduled at the surgery. The surgery will close at 1.00pm on these days and re-open at 8.00am on the following morning. Patient's should contact 111 with any medical issues during this time. 

This is protected time for Clinicians and staff to attend training sessions.
